George Haywood: George Haywood's life story is a remarkable tapestry of academic achievement, financial mastery, and dedicated philanthropy woven from his roots in Washington, DC. Born to parents who were public school educators on September 30, 1952, he was steeped in an environment that deeply valued education and community service. His educational journey commenced at Brightwood Elementary School. It progressed at Saint Albans School, where he distinguished himself academically and athletically, notably as the co-captain of the soccer team and the leader of the academic quiz team. These experiences set the stage for his early admission to Harvard College at just 16, where he majored in biology, demonstrating early signs of his intellectual prowess. Post-Harvard, his career path was marked by diversity and innovation. Initially embarking on roles as a flight attendant and a professional blackjack player, he veered into law and finance, beginning with a foundational period at Harvard Law School. This transition heralded the start of a significant finance career, notably at Lehman Brothers in 1982, where he became the first black managing director and led the corporate bond trading department.
